Can you believe that in just a few short weeks it will officially be the end of the DECADE? Where has the time gone! As 2019 comes to an end, we’ve found ourselves thinking back to last year’s resolutions and wondering, what happened? If you feel like us, don’t worry because we’re not alone. According to U.S News & World Report, 80 percent of New Year’s Resolutions fail. So that made us think, what are we doing wrong? We decided that this year, instead of setting goals we should do but never will, let’s set goals that are obtainable and ones we can really accomplish. Below we’ve outlined 10 New Year’s resolutions that you’ll actually want to keep! 

#1: Drink More Water  

Incorporating more water into your daily routine can reduce headaches, boost energy and even clear up your skin. Though many of us know these benefits and more, it’s still challenging to put down that diet soda and reach for a glass of water instead. To make this resolution easier to accomplish, we suggest starting small! Make it a daily goal to fill up and drink at least one big water bottle a day. Once you make this goal a habit, you’ll reap the benefits of being a hydrated and overall happier person. 

 #2 Stop Procrastinating  

The English writer Edward Young coined the saying “procrastination is the thief of time”. Boy was he right! If we wait until the last minute to perform tasks that we should have done right away, we are doing way more harm than good. Getting ahead of your to-do list and performing tasks in a timely manner will reduce stress and anxiety, save time and boost your confidence.  

#3 Do Things You’ve Never Done Before 

Are you tired of having the same routine day in and day out? Switch things up little by little by every week doing things you normally wouldn’t. Instead of ordering Chinese takeout, put down the chopsticks and experience a budget-friendly day out with friends and family instead. Incorporating different activities that go against your status quo can lead you to discovering new and exciting things that you’ll really enjoy.  

#4 Pick up a New Hobby 

How many of us can say we have a lot of hobbies? I certainly can’t! Learning a new skill or engaging in new hobbies like gardening, flower arranging, or arts and crafts can stimulate our minds in ways that has never been done before. When you find something you really enjoy doing it can enrich your entire life, allow you to meet new people and lead you to many different avenues.  

#5 Spend More Time Outside  

Since we live in the streaming age of video games, Netflix, Hulu and more, it’s becoming harder and harder to entice people to spend more time outside. I mean, I get it. When Disney Plus launched, I thought about never leaving my house again. Making it a goal to spend and do more activities outside a couple times a week can boost your vitamin D levels, improve your concentration and give you a safe space to destress. The next time you’re watching Netflix and the “are you there?” screen pops up, hit no and go outside for some fresh air!   

#6 Spend More Quality Time with Family and Friends  

We know first-hand how hard it is to spend quality time with family and friends when everyone has their own busy schedules. Setting aside time for loved one is priceless, and something we should all try to incorporate in the new year. Doing so means you’re creating long lasting memories that will last a lifetime.  

#7 Go to Bed Earlier!  

If you’re like us, you’ve risked being late for work just so you can stop at Dunkin’ Donuts for an early morning pick-me-up. Though it’s easy to stay awake way past your bedtime, you can be doing some pretty damaging things to your body. Start by going to bed even just an hour earlier. Once you wake up refreshed and clear minded, it will be a no brainer in the future.  

#8 Be Nice to Yourself  

Many of us are guilty of being kinder to others than we are to ourselves. Since only we have the power to speak more positively, why not start in the new year? Instead of saying things like “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good enough” say “I can do this!” and “I am good enough!” Making small changes like this every single day can help boost your self-esteem and give you more confidence during your day to day routines.  

#9 Spend Money on Experiences Rather Than Things  

When I think about all the clothes in my closet with the tags still on, I can’t help but think of all the money that’s gone to waste. Choosing to indulge in experiences rather than material things will leave you feeling fulfilled for much longer. Afterall, when we all reflect on our lives, we won’t remember the makeup, shoes and clothes, we will remember the memories made doing fun activities with the people we love the most.  

 #10 Support Local & Family Run Businesses  

Though it may be easier and more convenient to go to a big box store, doing so may mean you’re missing out on unique benefits. With a box store, what you see is what you get. Local shops often offer unique products and promotions that you can’t get elsewhere.  Family run businesses tend to put more focus on customer service and ensuring you receive quality products that youre proud to show off.
