Fresh From The Farm: November 2020 Recap
Welkom Vrienden!
(welcome friends)
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We just wrapped up Thanksgiving, and though it looked different than years past, we still had a lot to be thankful for. After a crazy and trying year, 2021 is so close we can taste it! Like many of you, we’re hoping the next few months bring bigger and brighter things and health and happiness to everyone. With everything going on around us, we try to keep as busy as possible in November.
We wanted to share a few highlights with all of you. Take a look below to see what we did, and what new and exciting things we’ve been working on!
We finished planting – and so did you!
If you read our last monthly recap, you would know we began our planting tulip bulbs in preparation for our u-pick tulip season this spring. Within the last couple of weeks, all the bulbs have officially been tucked in the ground and will begin growing their roots shortly! April may seem like a long way away right now, but it will be here before you know it. Planting all the tulip bulbs gives us a great sense of accomplishment every year and is such a relief when it goes off without a hitch. That means we have more time to focus on other new and exciting projects for Holland Ridge Farms.
Planting this year was even more special because we got to do it along with you! It made us so happy to see so many of you plant our tulip bulbs in your own backyards and gardens. Don’t forget to share your pictures with us on Facebook and Instagram once they start to sprout!
Surprise! Our tulip delivery box is coming back!
Last spring we made the decision to sell our tulips online due to COVID-19 canceling our annual u-pick tulip season. We decided to sell 20 stems of our fresh-cut tulips and deliver them to your door- in two mystery colors. The response was truly overwhelming and the program was a big success for us. Whether you sent our tulips to a friend or bought them for yourself, it was heartwarming to see how much joy and happiness our flowers were able to bring. When the spring came to an end, we were already brainstorming ideas on how we can once again offer our tulip surprise box to all of you.
Though traditionally thought of as a spring flower, we have a surprise for you! Our greenhouse location (close to the farm) is one of the very few suppliers of tulips that grow seven months out of the year. That means we have an abundance of tulips just about ready to start showing color and come into bloom. Once the timing is right, we will open back our online store and start shipping our tulip boxes until Mother’s Day. We hope you’re just as excited as we are!
More beautiful flowers are on the horizon
Tulips and sunflowers have always been our bread and butter but that doesn’t mean we don’t love other varieties of flowers as well! Now in our 3rd year of business, we’re always looking for new opportunities to grow our family business. Since the summer, we’ve been growing a new type of flower in our greenhouse. We’ve tested different colors and varieties to see which produce the most beautiful blooms. We think many of you will real-lily like it! Keep a look out, as we plan to launch it early next year. 😉
Looking forward to the holiday season
Business aside, we’re looking forward to the following month. December is a magical time of year in so many ways for so many reasons. This year was very challenging and tested us in ways we didn’t even know were possible. Despite this, so many beautiful things still happened that we are very grateful for. As the holiday season is now upon us, we hope you get to spend much needed time with the people you love the most (even if it’s socially distanced)! Stay safe, happy, and healthy!
