Still Growing Strong Collection

When we first decided that we wanted to make Holland Ridge Farms merchandisewe knew it had to be something unique and meaningful. We brainstormed a bunch of different ideas but ultimately came up with the “still growing strong” collection. This phrase symbolizes not only what our farm but what many other farms and small businesses have been going through in the last couple of months. With all the uncertainty around us, we know we aren’t alone when we say we’re doing our best to keep moving forward regardless the circumstances that may lie ahead.

When you wear your “still growing strong” merchandise to one of our festivals or out and about in public we will know you played a part in supporting us through these hardships. We hope this collection serves as a positive reminder that there is always a rainbow after a storm.

New and improved customer service!

Here at Holland Ridge Farms we are always striving to improve our products and processes. One of the biggest challenges for our small team is customer service. This became even more apparent as we launched our tulip pickup and deliver program this Spring. During those 4 weeks we received thousands of comments, messages, emails and phone calls. As we mentioned in a previous blog post we tried our very best to respond in a timely manner. Even with extra help we sometimes had to work into the night to stay on top of things.

Reflecting on our process we realized that we needed to evolve in order to meet the expectations our customers deserve.

We did a lot of research into customer service options, sought advice from professionals and looked at other similar small businesses to see how they go about handling it. We’re so pleased to say that we recently switched to a whole new platform that will not only make our team more efficient at responding to questions and coming up with solutions it also gives our customers the opportunity to help themselves. This will free up our time to focus on our flowers and events and your time looking for answers.

You will see on the bottom right hand corner of our website a little green button that says help. If you click that you are able to search for answers from a comprehensive database that we have put together over the past few weeks. For a full list of questions and answers, visit our new support page at support.hollandridgedarms.com. As we continue to grow the business and launch new projects this resource will be invaluable for both you our customers and us!

If you’re not able to find what you’re looking for simply click contact us to submit a help ticket. This new ticket system allows us to better organize and monitor issues from one place. If you’ve placed an order with us you can still continue to respond to order emails as it pulls in from those. We can also view social media messages from this platform too which is a big time saver.

We would like to thank everyone for your patience as we continue to make things better. We appreciate each and everyone of you.

Spring Still Sprung at HRF: Tulip Season 2020 Recap

tulips in the tulip field

In the beginning of 2020, our team at Holland Ridge Farms was working hard and gearing up to make our third annual Tulip Festival the best one yet. Sadly, all our planning came to a screeching halt within the matter of weeks, as we waited to see how COVID-19 would unfold. As a small, family business that runs seasonally, we immediately became concerned how this could affect our original plans. Once it became clear to us that our Tulip Festival would no longer open like it was in years past, we buckled down and brainstormed safe and sufficient ways for our customers to still be able to view our tulip fields. Though we thought we had a great idea in place, it proved to be only the tip of the iceberg when it came to overcoming hardships this yearBelow we’ve recapped the rollercoaster ride that is our 2020 tulip season- one we will be sure to never forget!

Tulip Trail Canceled at the Last Minute

As we all know, the shutdown of businesses and the quarantine rules were put into place rather quickly in New Jersey. Since the safety of our guests were always in the forefront of our plans, we scrambled to unveil our brand-new drive through tulip trail. We worked hard to reconfigure and change the way we operate in order to ensure we were abiding by all rules. Once the opening day of the trail finally came, we were set to welcome our first customers to the farm. Unfortunately, when we got there, we were told the devastating news that we weren’t permitted to have customers on our fields and our trail would have to be shut down.

We experienced a lot of emotions when this happened, but we were mostly heartbroken that our months of planning, planting and preparing could have all been for nothing. We once again did our best to adapt and decided to implement a couple new services that could still bring our tulips into your homes.

A Tulip Surprise Box Delivered to Your Door!

Once we knew there was a chance that our millions of tulips could just go to waste, we wanted to make sure that would never happen! That’s why we decided to start selling our fresh cut tulips online, so you could send or have our flowers delivered right to your door. We needed to go by what varieties were freshest that day, so our tulip surprise box featured 20 stems of fresh cut tulips in two mystery colors. Since we had never shipped tulips direct to customers before we had no way of knowing how well it would be perceived. We were completely blown away with the amount of people who purchased a surprise box and even more so with the people who showed kindness and patience with us as we navigated this brandnew service.

Tulip Pickup at the Farm

When our drive through trail was shut down, we were told we would still be permitted to sell tulips at the farm, but customers weren’t able to drive through our fields. We reconfigured our traffic patterns for customers to still be able to see some color from our fields in a distance as they came to pick up their orders. Tickets were online only, and customers could purchase as many 10 stem bunches as they wanted for pickup at the farm. Once vehicles pulled up, tickets were scanned through windows and bunches were placed in cars and trucks with no contact necessaryOur tulip pickup was a great success and seeing all your smiling faces day in and day out truly made it all worthwhile

The Overwhelming Support We Received

Through all the challenges and ups and downs, one thing always remained true and that was the support from all our guests and customers. We never expected to receive the amount of emails, letters, comments, and messages that we did all from people offering to help and show support. Many either ordered surprise boxes or picked up at the farm just to spread joy and brighten up their loved one’s lives. We even had people who dropped off to hospitals, nursing homes and neighbors. We were moved to tears many times by the generosity of people that we saw day in and day out. We will forever be grateful to each and every one of you!

The Future looks Sunny

Now that our tulip season dust has settled, we’ve been working hard to prepare for our next event at the farm- our 2020 Sunflower Festival! In just a few short weeks we will begin planting the millions of sunflowers and other wildflowers that will be on display come September. We are planning to take you along for the ride through our Facebook and Instagram pages where we will be documenting the process.

We can’t wait to welcome you all to the farm come fall!

A message from the staff at Holland Ridge Farms

We are receiving some aggressive emails and comments stating that we are not doing a good enough job at customer service.

We are responding to as many comments, messages, and emails as physically possible. We have brought in a third person to help respond to people and try to resolve issues. Every day we are responding to customers from 6 in the morning until midnight sometimes. We cannot do any more than that unless we chose not to sleep and not to see our families. We state on the help section of our website we will respond within 1-2 business days. Meaning if you respond now we will try and get back to you by Tuesday. More than likely it will be the same or next day since we don’t want to create a backlog of emails and we know flower deliveries are time-sensitive. We have apologized countless times for issues that are within our control and beyond our control. We have issued refunds for all of those issues where possible, and that is all we can do right now. We are brand new at this, doing pickups at the farm and shipping tulips across the East coast.

Many of the issues our customers are experiencing are FedEx delivery issues which are completely beyond our control. Once we ship your tulip boxes we rely on FedEx to deliver them on time within 1-2 days. That is what they have promised us and what in turn we have promised you. We have the same tracking info as you once it ships, they do not provide us with any more detailed info. We have to call and sit on hold just like you to figure out why a box is delayed or missing. As with all shipping companies, mistakes happen. There are unforeseen delays. These are not due to our poor customer service or that we do not care about your order or your friends and family receiving flowers. We also cannot track each and every order one by one since we send out hundreds of orders per day. Another issue includes customers entering incorrect information at checkout, asking us to correct it even though we are unable to, then complaining that we are not doing enough to help them. To help streamline our production process, we pay for and print our shipping labels and gift messages soon after your order it’s received. It will print with the info you provide us, whether that is right or wrong. If wrong it will likely get held up and even returned to us.

First and foremost, we are farmers and growers. We are not a buttoned-up e-commerce giant with unlimited resources. We are doing our best with what we have available. We realize everyone is stressed and anxious during this time and we are under those same stresses as all of you. We hope we do not come across ungrateful because we are eternally grateful for the orders. Every time someone chooses to buy our tulips and deliver some joy to their household or the home of someone else it warms our hearts. We are trying to bring color to the community and at the same time save our family business. We feel that some of you have lost sight of that. It’s sad that we even have to write this, but please, be patient, be considerate of others, and give us a chance to correct things before jumping to conclusions or jumping on social media to publicly shame our process and our family business.

It is now midnight which means it’s Easter Sunday. Some of us will be at the farm at the crack of dawn, bunching flowers ready for today’s pickup, others will be waking up with their siblings, families and young children, and most likely checking more emails. Whatever you may be doing today please think about others in this time of need. If we all chose to support each other, be compassionate and caring, the world will get through this pandemic and be more positive for it.

Please note the majority of people have been overwhelmingly positive and we love reading all your comments and messages of support. If you do see a negative comment please do not engage if possible and let us try to solve their problem. If you do have an issue with an order, please contact us at orders@hollandridgefarms.com. This is the easiest and best way for us to respond timely and resolve your problem. If you have general questions that cannot be answered on the website, you can email us at info@hollandridge farms.com.

A message from the Jansen family about our tulip trail

Dear Holland Ridge Farms Customers,

We regret to inform you that as of this morning we are not permitted to have customers driving on our tulip fields. This is a huge blow for us as we were scheduled to open the farm and share months of hard work and our beautiful flowers with all of you. We will be issuing full refunds to anyone who has purchased trail tickets and any additional bunches. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to our loyal customers. If you purchased our Valentine’s Day promo you will be getting a partial refund of $20 which covers the cost of two festival tickets.

Pre-order NOW at hollandridgefarms.com/tulip-pickup. If you purchased additional tulip bunches you may still come to the farm to collect.
You can also order tulips for delivery in the form of our tulip surprise box. 20 stems in two mystery colors delivered anywhere in NJ, NY, PA, CT, MD, DE, MA, RI, NH and VT. $9.99 plus tax and delivery. Order NOW at hollandridgefarms.com/tulip-delivery

Since 2017 we have worked tirelessly to grow this family-run business and bring flowers to the public. We are now at risk of losing it all. We promise you that in these dark times they will brighten your day.

Best Regards,

The Jansen Family

Dear Holland Ridge Farms Customers,

In light of the recent COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic sweeping the nation, we have made the decision to move in a new direction for this year’s tulip festival. Like many small businesses around the country, we are forced to adapt and re-evaluate, putting the health and safety of guests and staff above all else. Since this is something we always have and always will consider the top priority, our annual tulip festival will now be a drive-through tulip trail.

We’ve decided that the drive-through tulip trail would still allow our guests to experience millions of tulips, just now from the comfort and safety of their own vehicles. We understand that this will be a different way to experience the flower fields, but we hope that by opening the tulip trail, we can still spread some happiness to the community during this difficult time. We currently don’t have an opening date for the tulip trail since it depends on when the tulips bloom. We are monitoring them very closely, and are predicting to be open the very beginning of April.

Due to the virus, we have also made the decision to cancel our Hero’s Heart Naming Celebration on April 25th , 2020. If you have purchased tickets for this event, you will be receiving a full refund and will be notified via email. We also wanted to let the customers that purchased our Valentine’s Day promotion know that their open-ended tickets for the tulip festival will be valid for any-day that the tulip trail is open.

Above all else, we hope you all stay safe and healthy during this unprecedented time in our country. We are true believers that tulips can spread community cheer even during the toughest of times. We hope by doing this tulip trail, our guests can regain a sense of normalcy and familiarity in an otherwise trying time.

For more information about our tulip trail, please visit www.hollandridgefarms.com/tulip-trail/. If you have any questions regarding the above statement, feel free to email  info@hollandridgefarms.com.

Best Regards,

Holland Ridge Farms Tulip Festival: Activities for All Ages

Family at the Tulip Festival

As a family run flower farm, it’s no surprise that we’re always thinking of ways to make our annual Tulip Festival family friendlyWhen we hear the words “family fun” we think of a place where the youngest, the oldest and everyone in between can get together and truly enjoy spending quality time. Since its inception, Holland Ridge Farms has taken steps to ensure that every age group can find something to enjoy. Whether that be picking fresh tulips for your kitchen table, or finding the perfect spot to pose for Instagram, our Tulip Festival truly caters to all. Below we’ve outlined just a few of the activities and reasons why visitors can enjoy the farm at any age.

Litte girl at the tulip festival

Little PeopleBig Farm!

At each tulip festival, we love seeing our visitor’s eyes light up when they see the millions of planted tulips for the very first time. We especially love when the littlest members of a family get to process the rows and rows of beautiful, vibrant colors. We find that it really captivates them!  The farm itself is a massive 153 acres- that leaves plenty of room for them to run around and play. Though this is all great, we find that the tiniest visitors really love our farm animals. They get the chance to see sheep, goats, cows, mules and more up close and personal. On the weekends we also offer pony rides and face painting. I mean, who wouldn’t love that!

Teenagers and Young Adults

Instead of encouraging teenagers and young adults to put their phones down, we do the opposite! We love walking around the farm and seeing visitors posing for pictures around the flower fields. Afterall, Holland Ridge Farms is an Instagram paradise (just remember to tag us 😉 )! We provide plenty of unique photo ops, and the millions of tulips acts as a vibrant and truly unique back drop. If you’re not into making your Instagram flow, the farm offers many other activities for teens and young adults to enjoy. This includes picking and making your own tulip bouquet, catching a ride on our tractor pulled hayride, watching a short film in our theatre and much more!

Who Says Adults Can’t Have Fun?

At Holland Ridge Farms, even the adults can have some fun! Our tulip festival is a unique way to spend a spring day and experience something new. Whether you want to come and explore, or hang out and relax, we offer the best of both worlds. As you stroll through the millions of tulips, you can sit at one of our picnic tables and soak in the view. We also always make sure to have a variety of food trucks onsite, so you always have options for lunch! Inbetween picking the most perfect stems, you can also visit our gallery, check out our gift shop, catch a ride on a horse drawn carriage and more! Our festival is also photography friendly, so feel free to snap as many pictures as you like!

Visitors in Their Golden Years

In order to ensure that visitors of all ages can enjoy our farm, we try to accommodate those who may need some extra help getting around. In order to do so, we provide extra assistance when parking. We have a dedicated drop off point at the main entrance, and we also offer transport to and from the parking area. Simply tell an employee and someone will try to get you the help you need.

Once you enter the farm, your possibilities for activities are endless! If you don’t want to do a ton of walking, but still want to see the farm, hop on our hayride! You can also check out the museum where you can find unique artifacts from Dutch tulip growers that date back for centuries.Once you’re done, head over to our Holland Shop where you can browse a wide variety of souvenirs that come directly from our homeland. That way, you won’t forget to take a piece of Holland with you!

We’ve been working hard to ensure that our 2020 Tulip Festival is the best one yet! Please keep in mind, the dates for the festival have not yet been announced since it’s weather dependent. Once we know we will be announcing on our social pages, website and through email.

If you have any questions regarding our tulip festival, feel free to contact us!

10 New Year’s Resolutions You’ll Actually Want to Keep

New Year's 2020

New Year, New Me?

Can you believe that in just a few short weeks it will officially be the end of the DECADE? Where has the time gone! As 2019 comes to an end, we’ve found ourselves thinking back to last year’s resolutions and wondering, what happened? If you feel like us, don’t worry because we’re not alone. According to U.S News & World Report, 80 percent of New Year’s Resolutions fail. So that made us think, what are we doing wrong? We decided that this year, instead of setting goals we should do but never will, let’s set goals that are obtainable and ones we can really accomplish. Below we’ve outlined 10 New Year’s resolutions that you’ll actually want to keep!

#1: Drink More Water

Incorporating more water into your daily routine can reduce headaches, boost energy and even clear up your skin. Though many of us know these benefits and more, it’s still challenging to put down that diet soda and reach for a glass of water instead. To make this resolution easier to accomplish, we suggest starting small! Make it a daily goal to fill up and drink at least one big water bottle a day. Once you make this goal a habit, you’ll reap the benefits of being a hydrated and overall happier person.

 #2 Stop Procrastinating

The English writer Edward Young coined the saying “procrastination is the thief of time”. Boy was he right! If we wait until the last minute to perform tasks that we should have done right away, we are doing way more harm than good. Getting ahead of your to-do list and performing tasks in a timely manner will reduce stress and anxiety, save time and boost your confidence.

#3 Do Things You’ve Never Done Before

Are you tired of having the same routine day in and day out? Switch things up little by little by every week doing things you normally wouldn’t. Instead of ordering Chinese takeout, put down the chopsticks and experience a budget-friendly day out with friends and family instead. Incorporating different activities that go against your status quo can lead you to discovering new and exciting things that you’ll really enjoy.

Little girl in a vibrant tulip field

#4 Pick up a New Hobby

How many of us can say we have a lot of hobbies? I certainly can’t! Learning a new skill or engaging in new hobbies like gardening, flower arranging, or arts and crafts can stimulate our minds in ways that has never been done before. When you find something you really enjoy doing it can enrich your entire life, allow you to meet new people and lead you to many different avenues.

#5 Spend More Time Outside

Since we live in the streaming age of video games, Netflix, Hulu and more, it’s becoming harder and harder to entice people to spend more time outside. I mean, I get it. When Disney Plus launched, I thought about never leaving my house again. Making it a goal to spend and do more activities outside a couple times a week can boost your vitamin D levels, improve your concentration and give you a safe space to destress. The next time you’re watching Netflix and the “are you there?” screen pops up, hit no and go outside for some fresh air!

#6 Spend More Quality Time with Family and Friends

We know first-hand how hard it is to spend quality time with family and friends when everyone has their own busy schedules. Setting aside time for loved one is priceless, and something we should all try to incorporate in the new year. Doing so means you’re creating long lasting memories that will last a lifetime.

Friends at the farm

#7 Go to Bed Earlier!

If you’re like us, you’ve risked being late for work just so you can stop at Dunkin’ Donuts for an early morning pick-me-up. Though it’s easy to stay awake way past your bedtime, you can be doing some pretty damaging things to your body. Start by going to bed even just an hour earlier. Once you wake up refreshed and clear minded, it will be a no brainer in the future.

#8 Be Nice to Yourself

Many of us are guilty of being kinder to others than we are to ourselves. Since only we have the power to speak more positively, why not start in the new year? Instead of saying things like “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good enough” say “I can do this!” and “I am good enough!” Making small changes like this every single day can help boost your self-esteem and give you more confidence during your day to day routines.

#9 Spend Money on Experiences Rather Than Things

When I think about all the clothes in my closet with the tags still on, I can’t help but think of all the money that’s gone to waste. Choosing to indulge in experiences rather than material things will leave you feeling fulfilled for much longer. Afterall, when we all reflect on our lives, we won’t remember the makeup, shoes and clothes, we will remember the memories made doing fun activities with the people we love the most.

#10 Support Local & Family Run Businesses

Though it may be easier and more convenient to go to a big box store, doing so may mean you’re missing out on unique benefits. With a box store, what you see is what you get. Local shops often offer unique products and promotions that you can’t get elsewhere.  Family run businesses tend to put more focus on customer service and ensuring you receive quality products that youre proud to show off.

As we were narrowing down our final list for obtainable New Year’s resolutions, we realized something that we think is pretty special. This year, Holland Ridge Farms can help you check off quite a few! Our annual Tulip Festival is held every year in April and is a great way to spend time with loved ones and experience the outdoors. With millions of the most beautiful tulips that Holland has to offer as your backdrop, it’s a no brainer for people of any age.

We hope you can use our list of resolutions as a guide to create an overall happier and healthier version of yourself in 2020. We will make sure to check in next year to see how you did! 😉

Fresh cut tulips, all year round!

We all know tulips as being a symbol of Spring. After the bulbs are planted in the Fall they hibernate over the winter – like most of us! Then, when the weather starts to warm up again they spring back to life with their bright green foliage and colorful petals. This is what we bank on every year for our annual Holland Ridge Farms Tulip Festival as millions of tulips burst into bloom at the farm.

Now even know we are known for our impressive tulip festivals in the Spring, we actually grow fresh cut tulips all year round. Our wholesale growing business which was founded by Casey Sr in the 1960’s is still going strong today. Every year we grow millions of beautiful tulips in local temperature-controlled greenhouses.

These get supplied to supermarkets up and down the East Coast – our Fall varieties are in stores right now!

We’re also excited to announce we’ll be attending the Harborside Farmer’s Market in Jersey City, every Wednesday from 2pm – 6pm starting December 4th. Each week we will pick and pack the freshest tulips and drive them up North to sell at our very own market stand. If you live in the local area this waterfront-district is definitely a must see, with its boutique retail stores, independent dining, art installations, live music, and unrivaled views of NYC. See you there!
